Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw claims Lata Mangeshkar would be honoured with a postage stamp
In honour of singing diva Lata Mangeshkar, the Centre has decided to issue a postal stamp. Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology of India, Ashwini Vaishnav, said the stamp will be a fitting tribute to the “Nightingale of India” during the India Today Budget Round Table.
As a commemorative stamp, the stamp will be issued. Commemorative stamps are produced to commemorate significant events, renowned figures in many fields, features of nature, beautiful or rare flora and fauna, environmental issues, agricultural activities, national/international issues, games, and so on, according to the postal authority. Only philatelic bureaux and counters, as well as the Philatelic Deposit Account Scheme, sell these stamps. There are only a few hundred of these printed.
The Department of Posts’ standards stipulates that stamps on people should not account for more than 10% of the Annual Issue Program.
Lata Mangeshkar, a legendary artist, died on February 6th. After testing positive for Covid-19, she was brought to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8. She had been receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the past few weeks.
Her health has deteriorated after showing signs of improvement previously. Unfortunately, she passed suddenly on Sunday, leaving the entire country in mourning. Lata Mangeshkar was cremated with full state honours in Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai, on Sunday.
The burial was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, and Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor.
M Venkaiah Naidu, Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, remarked earlier in the day that the death of singing star Lata Mangeshkar signified the end of an era in the music industry. “The country has lost a legendary playback vocalist, a compassionate human being, and a towering personality in the world of Indian music and movies with the demise of Lata Mangeshkar. “Her death signals the end of an era in the realm of music and has left an irreparable vacuum,” Naidu added.
