Following a flurry of social media outcry over the rising cost of housing, Maharashtra Minister for Social Justice and CIDCO Chairman Sanjay Shirsat announced that he would meet with former chief minister Eknath Shinde, the minister of housing, and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in an attempt to lower the prices.

In addition to residents, the Congress Party had also voiced their disapproval of the exorbitant prices of the homes under the “my preferred Cidco house” program, arguing that CIDCO’s rates were comparable to those of private builders. As many as 1,20,000 persons have applied for the 26,000 houses that CIDCO plans to develop.

These homes’ pricing, which vary by location and range from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 97 lakh, were just revealed. The lowest price for a one-bedroom apartment in Taloja is Rs 25 lakh; costs vary by location. But in Vashi, the identical one-bedroom apartment costs Rs 74 lakh.

A one-bedroom apartment in Vashi that has 322 square feet of carpet costs Rs 74 lakh. Similar one-bedroom flats are being offered by private builders in Vashi for between Rs 70 and Rs 75 lakh per square meter. However, locals asserted that CIDCO’s price rate, which comes to Rs 22,000 per square meter, is much beyond the means of the average person.

In light of the growing number of families, Shirsat stated, “I would take up the issue of relaxing the rule of having only one house in Navi Mumbai along with getting the prices down.” Cidco housing is for the general public, and as such, the pricing must be reasonable.
