To strengthen household-level waste segregation and improve sanitation, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its drive under the ongoing ‘Safai Apnao – Bimari Bhagao’ campaign.

The Drive

In an effort to boost waste segregation and promote sanitation, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is conducting intensive inspections and awareness drives across residential areas as part of its ongoing ‘Safai Apnao – Bimari Bhagao’ campaign.

Launched on July 1, the campaign focuses on encouraging citizens to segregate household waste into wet and dry categories. On Monday, civic teams from all eight municipal divisions inspected housing societies and residential colonies to monitor compliance. Officials ensured that residents were properly handing over segregated waste to municipal collection vehicles and were also informed about the environmental benefits of the practice.

The drive also included visits to organic waste processing units in major waste-generating societies and evaluation of Zero Waste Slum Model projects. These decentralized waste management initiatives aim to reduce landfill dependency and improve sanitation in slum areas.

NMMC has confirmed that these daily inspections and educational efforts will continue citywide in the coming weeks, with strong emphasis on public participation and behavioral change.

The civic body reiterated its commitment to transforming Navi Mumbai into a clean, sustainable, and environmentally responsible city.
