In a determined push to curb traffic violations and enhance road safety, the Seawoods Traffic Division launched an intensive enforcement drive throughout June.

The Traffic

In a month-long traffic enforcement drive, the Seawoods Traffic Division penalised 3,393 vehicles in June, issuing fines amounting to Rs 32.97 lakh. Of this, Rs 11 lakh has already been collected from violators.

The crackdown was conducted under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade, with the aim of enhancing road safety and enforcing traffic norms in high-traffic zones.

The traffic police targeted major violations such as riding without helmets, jumping red signals, driving under the influence, illegal parking, and use of modified loud silencers. These offences are considered major contributors to road accidents and urban congestion.

To further ease traffic flow, special focus areas included the busy stretches around Palm Beach Road and the zones surrounding Seawoods and Nerul railway stations.

Senior Police Inspector Mohini Lokhande of the Seawoods Traffic Division stated, “These special drives will be conducted regularly. Our goal is to enhance road safety and instill a culture of responsible driving.”

The initiative reflects the growing emphasis on disciplined road behavior in Navi Mumbai, and authorities plan to continue these operations to reduce traffic-related incidents and promote smoother commutes.

Steady monsoon downpours boost primary water reservoir for Navi Mumbai residents.

The Storage

In a major relief for Navi Mumbai residents, water levels at the Morbe Dam the primary drinking water source for the region have reached 75.66% of its total capacity, following consistent monsoon showers across its catchment area in Khalapur.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) officials confirmed that the rising water levels significantly reduce concerns over potential water cuts or supply disruptions in the coming months. The steady inflow has ensured a secure drinking water buffer for over 15 lakh residents across the city.

While the current stock is sufficient to meet daily demand well into early next year, civic engineers noted that sustained heavy downpours are still required for the reservoir to hit 100% capacity and overflow. NMMC continues to monitor catchment rainfall closely to optimize seasonal storage reserves.

In a strong bid to enforce urban planning norms and safeguard public land, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal structures across several ward offices. Following directives from the Bombay High Court regarding unauthorized developments, NMMC officials have taken strict action against hundreds of illegal structures. Show-cause notices have also been served to civic personnel under whose jurisdiction these unsanctioned developments reportedly flourished.

Armed with heavy machinery, anti-encroachment squads are pulling down illegal reinforced concrete (RCC) structures, unauthorized hutments, and encroached spaces built without required planning permissions or in violation of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act.

NMMC administrators have instructed ward officers to maintain strict monitoring, conduct regular site inspections, and initiate immediate punitive action against fresh encroachments to preserve the planned character of Navi Mumbai.
