78% Increase In Navi Mumbai Trees, With Current Focus On Desi Species
The Tree Authority of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has made the decision to stop planting a few species because of their vulnerability to high winds and rain. These species include Subabul, Gulmohar, Rain Tree, Okasia, Vilayati Tamarind, and Nilgiri. Rather, more hardy plants like Neem, Ashoka, Jambhul, Mango, Peltrophorum, and Pimpal will be encouraged. Following the uprooting of over 200 trees at the start of the monsoon, a decision was made. In order to protect the current trees, NMMC intends to employ an arborist to carry out a comprehensive ground examination and produce a report on tree health.
The civic organization has also made public its eagerly anticipated tree census report, which shows that there are 78% more trees now than there were when it was last counted. It highlights the city’s efforts to increase its green space and create a more sustainable urban environment, according to officials.
According to the census, there are 15.29 lakh trees in Navi Mumbai, of which 11.44 lakh are native species and 3.85 lakh are not. 1,638 of these trees are designated as historic trees. The differences in tree density across various places are also highlighted in the paper. With 3.33 million trees, ward number 26 in Adavali and Bhutavli village, under the Koparkhairane node, has the most, while ward number 70 in Turbhe, surrounding Indira Nagar, has just 89 trees. With 1.29 lakh Sag trees, the city has the most of any place.
As part of sustainable development, NMMC chairman and head of the Tree Authority Kailas Shinde has instructed officials to undertake massive plantings in each ward with an emphasis on indigenous species in order to boost the density of trees. The survey suggested planting more than 24 different types of trees because of their ability to regulate temperature, withstand drought, grow quickly, yield fruit, and withstand high temperatures. It also stressed routine upkeep and trimming, and recommended the elimination of 91,835 Subabul trees.

Navi Mumbai Electoral Roll Update: Over 3.84 Lakh Voters Await Digital Verification
Civic administration completes processing of forms received by August 18 as residents prepare to verify their registration status on upcoming draft lists.
The Verification
The Special Intense Revision (SIR) drive to update electoral rolls across Navi Mumbai concluded recently, with local authorities finalizing the initial round of data collection. Administrative records show that out of 9,19,697 registered voters across the Airoli and Belapur assembly constituencies, 5,35,214 enumeration forms were digitally processed. Meanwhile, approximately 3,84,483 forms remain pending in the digital registration phase.
Field reports indicate that verification teams faced various logistical challenges during door-to-door visits in neighborhoods like Ghansoli, Koparkhairane, Digha, and Turbhe. Unavailability of residents, locked homes, and delays in returning completed enumeration forms contributed to lower collection rates in specific pockets. In response, municipal authorities organized special local camps and coordinated with political representatives to boost outreach efforts before the submission deadline.
With initial form collection closed, civic officials clarified that additional submissions will no longer be accepted for this phase, shifting attention to the upcoming publication of the draft voter list.
Citizens looking to check their voter status or file corrections can visit the Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra Portal or access the central Election Commission of India Voters’ Service Portal to verify their details, submit claims, or track upcoming electoral roll revisions.
