The water level at Navi Mumbai’s Morbe Dam drops to less than 30%.

The Water Cut

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has declared two days of weekly water cutbacks throughout Navi Mumbai until the onset of the monsoon due to the diminishing water storage in the Morbe dam. All city nodes are expected to experience the water cutbacks, according to an NMMC officer. The city government estimates that the Morbe Dam will only be able to supply water for the next fifty-two days.

According to statistics from the previous year, the water level at Morbe Dam is still sufficient, but the administration is taking precautions in case the rainfall is delayed or falls short of what is needed to cause the dam to overflow. The nodes are all undergoing the cuts in a methodical manner. There is currently 29% of the dam’s water in reserve, according to a water department official.

At Morbe Dam, the water level is 70.46 meters. 88 meters is the dam’s spilling point. The water restrictions went into effect on June 4. Former corporators are warning the populace to utilize water carefully.

“We have been notified by messages that there will be disruptions to the water supply on Mondays and Thursdays, which will result in lower water pressure even on the days that follow. Anurag Patil, a Belapur resident, stated, “The message has been circulated in society groups so that residents take note.”

According to the schedule established by the water department, water shortages will occur on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the Koparkhairane node, on Wednesdays and Sundays in Ghansoli, on Thursdays and Mondays in Vashi, on Tuesdays and Saturdays in Nerul, and on Sundays and Wednesdays in Turbhe.
