At Sector 18, Sanpada, Individuals Are At Risk From Slippery Footpaths And Fallen Tree Branches
Slippery footpaths & discarded tree branches pose a threat to pedestrians in Navi Mumbai.
The Threat
The slippery walking routes in Sector 18, Sanpada, have alarmed the locals, who have also brought attention to the problem of abandoned tree branches blocking the road.
In a post on X, an individual, who persistently and proactively brings attention to the dirty and impassable walkways in Sanpada, stated, “This is the wrong place to store organic waste.” “Absolutely pathetic state of footpaths in Sanpada Sector 18, 19,” she continued. Sometimes, for days, there is absolutely no evidence of sweeping.
Another Sanpada resident related an awful occurrence that happened to his mother as a result of the slippery pathways. “That’s exactly where my mom fell, where the tree was chopped down and the branches were all over the place,” he added. Her meniscus tear required arthroscopic surgery to be repaired. Who is in charge of her mishap? She also had injuries to her lips and the head.
According to a resident of Sector 18, Sanpada, “The civic authorities need to address this issue because a lot of algae and moss grows on the footpaths due to continuous rainfall.” Such circumstances make residents more likely to trip and fall. They must to pick up any fallen or trimmed branches as well. It is important that pedestrians can safely use the pathways. Pavement tiles may be taken into consideration by the municipal authorities if the concrete sidewalk cannot be saved following the monsoon.

The Action
CIDCO and the Navi Mumbai Police have intensified action against the illegal transportation and dumping of construction debris in Navi Mumbai during the Ganeshotsav period. Water Cuts May Return in Navi Mumbai After Diwali as Morbe Dam Storage Falls
Usable water storage stands at 75%, civic administration urges residents to avoid wastage.
The Water Cut
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has warned that water cuts may be reintroduced after Diwali if the water level in Morbe Dam continues to decline. Water cuts in the city were cancelled from Gokul Ashtami to meet the increased demand during the festive season. However, the reduced rainfall in the dam’s catchment area has led to a fall in the available water storage.
Although Morbe Dam currently has an overall storage level of 91.3%, only 75% is considered usable. This is lower than the 84.17% usable storage recorded during the same period last year. In 2024, the usable storage stood at 83.87%. The dam has not filled completely despite the monsoon reaching September. Last year, Morbe Dam had reached 100% capacity by August 20. The lower rainfall this year has raised concerns about water supply planning for the coming months.
The civic administration is hoping for stronger rainfall during the Ganeshotsav period to improve the dam’s storage. Officials have also urged residents to use water carefully and avoid unnecessary wastage. Madan Waghchaudhe, Executive Engineer of the Morbe Project, said that the administration was monitoring the situation closely. He added that a decision on whether to impose water cuts would be taken after Diwali, depending on the water storage and supply requirements.
For now, the NMMC has appealed to citizens to cooperate by using water responsibly.
