Navi Mumbai Boiled After Temperature Exceeds 40°C

Due to the heatwave that was affecting the weather, Mumbai’s highest temperature on Tuesday hit 40 degrees Celsius around 7:30 pm. Mumbaikars struggled to make it through the day due to the intense heat. On Wednesday, the heatwave is still most likely. Not only did Mumbai have a very hot day, but its surrounding towns, such as Thane and Navi Mumbai, also did.

The IMD Santacruz observatory reported a high temperature of 39.7 degrees earlier in the day. This value was 6.3 higher than average. According to a media source, it was also the warmest daytime temperature the city has seen in ten years. It’s important to remember that the city has had much hotter days, with a high of 41 degrees on March 25, 2018.

In the meanwhile, daytime temperatures at the IMD Colaba observatory recorded 35.2 degrees, which is 2.3 degrees higher than average. By 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Thane’s temperature had risen to 43.0 degrees Celsius. According to the media report, Thane reported daytime temperatures of 42.8 degrees Celsius earlier in the day, while the Navi Mumbai observatory in Rabale recorded highest temperatures of 42 degrees.

IMD issued an orange notice for Tuesday’s forecast, saying that “Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions in isolated pockets are very likely”. In the meanwhile, the meteorological service has forecast a heatwave for April 17. Mumbai saw its hottest night of the year on Monday. The IMD Santacruz observatory reported a low temperature of 27.5 degrees. It’s three degrees warmer than usual.

Navi Mumbai Police Arrest African National With Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Cocaine In Ulwe

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.

Thane Sees Surge of Nomination Filings for 2024 Vidhan Sabha Election

The final day for filing nominations for the 2024 Vidhan Sabha General Election witnessed a surge of candidates in Thane district, with a total of 281 applications submitted across 18 assembly constituencies. This high turnout signals a competitive race for seats in the upcoming election.

Among the nominees, 114 candidates represent various political parties, while 167 have filed as independents, reflecting a diverse array of participants aiming to represent Thane’s voters.
