NMMC’s New Draft Development Plan: Citizens Discover Difference in English and Marathi Versions

Published

on

Major flaws in NMMC’s new development plan were noticed by residents.

The Difference

Citizens are concerned about a significant disparity between the English and Marathi versions of Notice No. NMMC/TPD/ADTP /413/2024, which relates to the publication of modifications in the Draft Development Plan under section 28(4) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, following the company’s recent disclosure regarding the New Draft Development Plan by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

One issue with the Draft Development Plan, which pertains to the marking of plot numbers meant for residential complexes, has been brought to the attention of residents within the authority of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. When it comes to the Navi Mumbai development plan, the NMMC has made many proposals to the state government. The Marathi and English versions, however, now seem to differ from one another. In Nerul, Sector 52 (DPS Lake) is mentioned in the English version, whereas Sector 52A is mentioned in the Marathi version. Furthermore, the Marathi version refers to Sector 52A in the same context as the English version, which adds that “the land shown as waterbody in Sector 52 is now included in Residential Zone.”

Since the draft Development Plan was released, citizens have been confused as a result of this contradiction. Nerul locals who are worried see this as either a serious mistake or a calculated attempt to hide the existence of water bodies in Sectors 52 and 52A, Nerul. Sunil Agarwal, a resident of NRI Complex in Seawoods, Nerul, expressed objection to the Development Plan and stressed the need to protest against the planned revisions, citing the apparent mismatch between the Marathi and English versions as one point of contention.
