The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) stated that in accordance with the air quality requirements, legal action is being taken against those who do not follow the criteria for pollution reduction, as instructed by the Bombay high court for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

In order to address debris management, NMMC commissioner and administrator Rajesh Narvekar presided over a meeting with pertinent officials. He placed specific emphasis on the formation of cleaning-focused special teams and on intense activities at building sites lasting a whole day.

In the meanwhile, the NMMC has accepted the BMC’s development of an air quality management framework, and as a result, efforts are being made to raise the city’s air quality index. Everyone in the city has a responsibility to preserve excellent air quality, according to Narvekar, who also suggested that the relevant departments take the required steps as soon as possible. The authorities have been directed to form more special teams within different agencies in order to conduct site inspections at construction sites and make sure that daily activity information are consistently posted on the website.

In Navi Mumbai, there are up to seven active air quality measuring centers. According to Narvekar, measurements at these sites should be examined every two hours so that appropriate action may be taken in response to the results. Narvekar also mandated that the inspection reports of construction sites, completed by the special teams under the Town Planning and Engineering Department, be posted on the website on a regular basis. He gave his subordinates instructions to follow the high court’s ruling and fully cease the transfer of waste at building sites for the time being. Anti-debris teams have to be stationed in key areas, paying close attention to the toll booths in Vashi and Airoli in particular.

The commissioner emphasized the need of making sure the item being moved is well covered and of properly documenting the transfer of debris. As stated in the HC ruling, the police department and other authorities were directed to exercise caution when using firecrackers during the designated hours. Citizens are urged to actively collaborate in order to significantly enhance the quality of the air, especially students in schools and colleges.
