Under the direction of Swachh Bharat Mission director Rupa Mishra, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has initiated an awareness drive with a range of activities in anticipation of the festival, with a focus on the Three-R, reduce, reuse, and recycle, formula. This is part of the central government’s “Swachh Diwali-Shubh Diwali” initiative. The civic authority has launched this initiative to encourage people to help manage garbage properly by bringing useable items that have been abandoned to local collection centers while they clean their houses in anticipation of celebrations and donate them to those in need.

According to civic sources, waste management that is founded on the ideas of encouraging reuse, lowering waste, and enabling recycling is crucial for the advancement of sustainability in today’s world. Urging people to contact the old-house material collecting centers is intended to reduce waste, promote item reuse, and set up efficient recycling procedures, among other things. “The needy and impoverished can make the most use of the abandoned stuff. After obtaining the materials of their choosing from the collection centers, they may also celebrate Diwali, according to Navi Mumbai municipal commissioner and administrator Rajesh Narvekar.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has already put in place a number of cutting-edge initiatives that support these goals. To collect used household items like as shoes, blankets, bedsheets, clothing, books, plastic bottles, kitchenware, leather goods, pots, newspapers, and electrical equipment, the local authority has established up to 92 collection centers across the city. This makes it possible to give such things to people who are in need. According to a civic authority, “the marginalized section would benefit from such centers while picking usable items, though all are not privileged.”
