MLA Manda Mhatre gave fishermen’s a heart-warming Diwali gift
MLA Manda Mhatre of the Belapur Assembly Constituency has been instrumental in bringing about a major win for fishermen impacted by the MMRDA-executed Nhavasheva-Shivdi Sea Link Project. The bank accounts of these fishermen have successfully received a total compensation sum of Rs. 5.56 crore.
In a positive move, fishermen from Diwale, Belapur, Karave, Sarsole, Vashi, and Airoli in Navi Mumbai who were impacted by the project came together to celebrate this accomplishment at Warkari Bhavan in the CBD. Ananta Bose, President of Fagewale Machchhimar Sanstha, and other dignitaries and presidents of Machchhimar (fishermen) lighted the occasion.
During the ceremony, MLA Manda Mhatre broke the good news, stating that qualified fishermen have already begun getting their compensation in line with the MMRDA survey. 132 newly certified fisherman earned Rs. 3.37 lakh as both the first and second payment of their remuneration, while 83 fishermen received the first instalment of Rs. 1.34 lakh. As part of the first and second instalments, 215 fishermen from Diwale, Belapur, Karave, Sarsole, Vashi, and Airoli have currently received a total compensation of Rs. 5.56 crore straight into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The remaining fisherman, whose documentation procedures are still pending, will have their paperwork checked as soon as possible, according to MLA Manda Mhatre, to guarantee they receive their just recompense. She stressed her steadfast determination to guarantee that none of her Koli brothers are denied this recompense. In a related event, Union Fisheries Minister Parushottam Rupala revealed intentions to offer “Kisan Credit Cards” to fisherman, similar to the credit programmes given to farmers, during the National Fisheries Conference on October 6, 2023. Through this programme, loans up to Rs. 1.6 lakh will be available at a nominal interest rate of 7%, with a 3 percent interest subsidy provided by the government for on-time repayments. Navi Mumbai Police Arrest African National With Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Cocaine In Ulwe
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.
Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.
An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.
