A businessman filed a complaint stating that a married couple from Grant Road, Mumbai, defrauded him of Rs 2.89 crore after promising to create a web site to promote his travel agency. The married pair was subsequently arrested and charged by the APMC police. Charit Mehta (40), and Akanksha Mehta (39), the accused pair, have been named, according to senior inspector Tanvir Shaikh of the APMC police station. They were charged with violating IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing the handover of property), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), and 34 (acts committed by many people to promote a single purpose).

Sagar Didwal, the complainant, is a resident of Ghansoli and owns and operates Seven Corners Tours and Travels Pvt Ltd out of the Ambience Court building in Vashi’s sector 19E, according to Shaikh. “The accused pair first contacted Didwal in May 2019 at his workplace and made an offer to build a travel site for his firm using an application programming interface (API) link in order to expand its reach abroad. Through the name Aries Vacations Pvt Ltd, the accused had taken Rs 2.89 crore from Didwal and had promised enormous profits, but has now broken his promise. Up to October 2021, they accepted payments into a number of bank accounts.

The defendants broke their contract by failing to get a bank guarantee and using an API to connect their travel site to overseas travel agencies. Didwal filed a police complaint after the accused refused to pay him back after he requested his money for breaking the contract, and a FIR was subsequently filed,” Shaikh continued. The IPC sections mentioned against the accused have sentences of less than seven years, therefore Shaikh said, “The accused have not been arrested but have been served notice to cooperate in the police investigation, under the code of criminal procedure as per the provisions of the law.”
