Three online fraudsters, including two women, conned a woman who lived in old Panvel out of Rs 9.7 lakh in a Telegram scam by promising her a distant part-time job. The event happened from June 9 to June 14. Tanvi Mandare, a 42-year-old B.Com graduate who filed the FIR on Friday, claimed to have posted her résumé on LinkedIn. On June 7, she received a text message from a person named Neelam on her Telegram account offering her a remote job. Neelam pretended to be from a recruiting agency that offers part-time jobs paying between Rs 1,200 and 1,800 per day and full-time jobs paying between Rs 2,200 and 4,200 per day.

Later that day, Shreya Gupta’s Telegram account @Shreya154 sent Mandare an SMS requesting that she rate and evaluate hotels. A link requesting Mandare’s bank information was given to her on June 8 after Gupta joined her to the Telegram group “AIRBNB Home Stay”. She was instructed to give 30 hotels a rating for 16,000 rupees on June 9. A text message arrived later instructing her to provide Rs 11,000 in order to receive her pay. She was then given the opportunity to deposit another Rs 14,000 and promised Rs 14,000 for another work. She eventually paid Rs. 9.7 lakh.

Gupta’s assistant Ganesh with the Telegram handle @Ganeshz1991 told her to deposit Rs 9.3 lakh to receive her salary of Rs 22.8 lakh when she enquired about it. She recognised she had been tricked at that point.

Senior leader demands action against corrupt officials and halts suspicious building demolitions in Sector 9.

The Redevelopment

Raising a stern alarm over reckless urban expansion, State Minister Ganesh Naik has ordered a crackdown on questionable redevelopment projects across Navi Mumbai, taking a strong stand to protect the planned character of the satellite city.

Focusing on two controversial redevelopment sites in Vashi Sector 9 the Naivedya and Albela buildings Naik directed municipal officials to immediately halt suspicious demolitions, revoke dubious commencement certificates (CCs), and initiate strict action against civic personnel involved in illegal approvals.

Addressing citizens at a recently held Janata Darbar, Naik voiced deep concern over the misuse of cluster redevelopment schemes and Floor Space Index (FSI) regulations, warning that unchecked high-rise construction without matching infrastructure will overwhelm roads, water supply, and parking facilities.

“If increased FSI is granted to every building without planning proper roads, parking, and water supply, Navi Mumbai will become completely unliveable,” Naik asserted, urging an immediate audit of civic approvals. Ganesh Naik’s firm stance underlines a growing effort to hold civic authorities accountable and ensure that urban renewal respects public safety, transparency, and the long-term wellbeing of residents.
