After a Rs. 28 crore renovation, Nerul Park will reopen three years after the lockdown
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is getting ready to reopen Wonders Park in Nerul next week, more than three years after it was forced to close with the arrival of Covid-19 in March 2020. This follows a significant renovation that was completed a few months ago at a cost of Rs 28 crore. The city government decided to offer the facilities to guests regardless of the availability of Netas after receiving criticism from a variety of sources. Concerns have been raised by locals and activists over the unheard-of delay in reopening, the inflated financial allocation for renovations, and the increased admission fees. Without further delay, the facility would be reopened in a week, according to NMMC Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar.
Sanjay Desai, city engineer for NMMC, stated that the park had a significant makeover while it was closed and that it has now been enlarged with more amenities than its previous range of entertainment. Visitors can spend several hours here because of the abundance of scenery. The park has undergone a significant modernization. Without a doubt, the facility will open the next week. According to activist Rajeev Mishra, it is a waste of tax dollars that might have been used for other initiatives. Since there is nothing to pique tourists’ interest, the entrance fees are excessive and appear to be too costly for the average person.
In comparison to the previous pricing of Rs 35, NMMC has increased entry fees for children aged five to twelve and for those beyond the age of twelve. With the addition of CCTV cameras, melodic fountain laser displays, and audio-visual equipment, the park’s aesthetics have been enhanced. The renovation seeks to shorten lines and improve the tourist experience.
