Rajesh Narvekar, commissioner of the NMMC, has instructed concerned authorities working on the city’s ongoing comprehensive property survey to provide information on the properties being surveyed using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology with the civic property tax department. The civic body is projected to collect additional taxes starting with the following fiscal year since, according to NMMC sources, the LiDAR scan will reveal an increase in the number of properties in the city. The commissioner instructed the NMMC engineering and electrical department in a review meeting to give the property tax department as much information on properties being surveyed using LiDAR technology as possible by January 31 in order to guarantee prompt updating of the records.

NMMC began a LiDAR study of all the properties at the beginning of the year. Narvekar has been closely monitoring the current survey. A comprehensive survey of properties is being conducted utilising LiDAR technology and a mobile mapping device with a 360-degree view. Using drones and on-site visits, the study is being carried out in two stages using LiDAR technology. The personnel have been instructed by Narvekar to ensure the survey’s correctness. 12 places in the NMMC region may have been mapped for the survey. Also requested by Narvekar were plans and preparations for the collection of property taxes in the years 2023–2024 based on the results of the LiDAR study.

Ground Control Points (GCPs) have been established at 12 places around the NMMC as part of the survey to mark the terrestrial survey utilising LiDAR technology. GCP has already been installed in 7 of the total 12 sites. In order to gather photos for drone surveys, this is utilised for geo-referencing. According to a representative, it will aid in obtaining correct statistics. The corporation’s properties as well as the city’s street lighting, water and sewage systems, and other public facilities will all be renovated.
