Nerul man is defrauded of Rs. 46 lakh by four cybercriminals
A group of four online fraudsters impersonating employees of a job portal where the complainant had registered his CV had conned a 58-year-old resident of Nerul out of about Rs 46 lakh. He received a call from the con artist via his mobile device offering him a job in a petroleum company in Oman and Canada. They convinced him to transfer Rs. 45.49 lakh under the guise of a processing fee for the job, a medical fee, a charge for insurance for four family members, and the opening of a bank account in Canada.
The incident took place in the months of October and December. On December 26, a fraud investigation report (FIR) was submitted after the alleged criminals were isolated. Deepak Kotiyal, Anand Bakshi, Aaditya Awasthi, and Shivi Rawat are the defendants listed in the FIR. According to the FIR, on October 14, Deepak Kotiyal called the complainant on his cell phone and claimed to be a representative of the Work Vision job recruiting firm. He then promised the complainant a position with British Petroleum in Oman. As a result, he was forced to send a total of Rs 5.98 lakh online under the guise of processing fees for job applications.
On October 21, a lady named Shivi Rawat who claimed to work for the “Indeed Job platform” called him from a different cell device. She complimented his résumé and informed him that the firm manager will get in touch with him if he was interested in working in Canada. As soon as he gave his consent, Kunal Awasthi—posing as a senior consultant for the Indeed company—called him. His employment offer letter from the Canadian firm “Fill More,” according to Kunal Awasthi, has been received, and their senior manager Aditya Awasthi will get in touch with him. After a few days, Aditya Awasthi called him on his cell phone and informed him that the Canada-based organisation would charge him for hiring him.
Even Aditya Awasthi gave him his email address for further correspondence. Following that, the complainant was forced to make two RTGS transfers in protest of visa processing costs, medical expenses, insurance for four family members, and bank account establishment in Canada, totaling Rs 6.59 lakh and Rs 32.91 lakh, respectively. To earn the complainant’s trust, Aditya Awasthi conducted an online interview with him. Later, he informed him that the position in Canada had been secured and instructed him to visit the Canadian embassy in Mumbai on December 24 with his family. When the complainant got there, he saw that it was shut. Even the Awasthi pair had turned off their phones. He filed a police report (FIR) against the four suspects for conspiring to defraud him financially.

Tourism in Palghar district got a high-altitude boost on Independence Day with the grand unveiling of a spectacular glass skywalk at the famous Dabhosa Waterfall. Inaugurated by Maharashtra Forest Minister and District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, the landmark project marks Palghar’s first-ever transparent skywalk, sparking immense excitement among locals and travel enthusiasts.
Engineered to offer an adrenaline-pumping perspective, the structure features a 5-meter-long transparent glass walkway leading to an 11-foot-wide circular viewing deck.
