khaas Dost : Boris Johnson referred to Prime Minister Modi
Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, had delegation-level meetings with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Friday, the second day of his India tour. While Johnson’s visit to India is being scrutinised for a variety of factors that are critical to bilateral relations, his allusions to India and Indian features are notable.
Boris Johnson referred to PM Modi as his ‘khaas dost’ (‘special buddy’) at their joint news conference. In a light-hearted moment, the UK Prime Minister began his address by remarking that his lavish reception in Gujarat had made him feel like Sachin Tendulkar & Amitabh Bachchan.
PM Modi is referred to as ‘khaas dost’ by Boris Johnson.
“When I arrived, I felt like Sachin Tendulkar, and when I saw hoardings everywhere, I felt like Amitabh Bacchan,” the UK Prime Minister stated.
In addition, the UK PM stated that India is known as the “pharmacy of the world” because it participates in the worldwide COVID-19 immunisation push “In my arm is an Indian jab. Thank you very much, India. India has become the world’s pharmacy.”
PM Modi and Johnson discussed bolstering the planned free trade deal, Indo-Pacific cooperation, and discussions on defence links.
“I don’t think things between us (India-UK) have ever been as strong or as good as they are today,” Johnson said after receiving a “great welcome.”
‘A fantastic welcome,’ says Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
While the major focus is supposed to be on strengthening bilateral ties and executing the India-UK Roadmap 2030, the UK PM has declared that he would not lecture PM Modi about the lack of Indian sanctions on Moscow amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In Delhi, Prime Minister Modi and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will begin discussions.
“It’s great to see you in India, my buddy Boris Johnson, on a long-awaited visit. I’m looking forward to today’s talk “PM Modi took to Twitter after greeting the British Prime Minister.
However, Boris Johnson expressed interest in addressing “climate change, energy security, and defence” with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Today in New Delhi, I’m looking forward to meeting with my buddy Narendra Modi. As the globe faces mounting challenges from authoritarian governments, our democracies’ cooperation is critical on issues ranging from climate change to energy security to defence “He tweeted about it.
Following consultations at Hyderabad House, PM Modi and Boris Johnson will resume their talks.
According to a news statement from the UK government, the high-level meetings between the two sides were held under the guise of defence, diplomacy, and trade. In the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, next-generation defence and security collaboration across the five domains of land, sea, air, space, and cyber remained a possibility.
A UK press statement claimed, “This includes backing for new Indian-designed and constructed fighter planes, giving the best of British know-how on creating battle-winning aircraft.”
India’s defence systems will be improved, and the climate catastrophe will be addressed, thanks to the United Kingdom.
To decrease bureaucracy and accelerate delivery times for defence purchases, England is believed to have issued the first Open General Export License (OGEL) to India. The conference saw the introduction of a virtual Hydrogen Science and Innovation Hub, with an emphasis on keeping green hydrogen inexpensive and supporting the Green Grids Initiative, which was announced during COP26.
Electrification of India’s public transportation with the help of the United Kingdom was also explored.

Tourism in Palghar district got a high-altitude boost on Independence Day with the grand unveiling of a spectacular glass skywalk at the famous Dabhosa Waterfall. Inaugurated by Maharashtra Forest Minister and District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, the landmark project marks Palghar’s first-ever transparent skywalk, sparking immense excitement among locals and travel enthusiasts.
Engineered to offer an adrenaline-pumping perspective, the structure features a 5-meter-long transparent glass walkway leading to an 11-foot-wide circular viewing deck.
