In Navi Mumbai, in a new case Regarding the latest theft of Rs 82.5 lakh cash by a van driver in the city, the commissioner of police has directed all banks to conduct background checks on their ATM van drivers and other related staff to protect their liquid money, particularly when it is in transit to counters. “Police recovered virtually all of the Rs 82.5 lakh cash taken from Bank of India by (36), who escaped with the money after his arrest. Only 1.10 lakh is still missing. While investigating this issue, the coastal police and crime division performed an extraordinary job,” Singh added.

“We have delivered a message to banks that their financial deposits are essentially public monies, and they must take severe precautions to protect this money,” he said. “All safety rules at every ATM kiosk must be followed, including the installation of cameras, as well as properly validating the credentials of the hired workers, such as drivers and guards,” added Singh. Dalvi had only lately been employed, and he hadn’t even double-checked his phone number. Dalvi had escaped with the vehicle when it arrived at the kiosk in Bamandongri, near Ulwe, last week, while the other employees walked a short distance away to deposit money at an ATM.

However, from the Vashi Railway Flyover down to Akshar Chowk and the Kopri Flyover near Seawoods, large construction dumpers have converted pedestrian pathways and service lanes into makeshift parking lots.

Locals allege that trucks tied to nearby real estate developments are blocking walkways and creating dangerous visual blind spots, forcing pedestrians onto high-speed main carriageways. Citizen groups have questioned the lack of enforcement, asking whether municipal “No Parking” signs are merely cosmetic. Local representatives have demanded immediate joint action by civic authorities and the traffic police before a fatal collision occurs.

Responding to growing public anger, Prashant Nerker, Assistant Commissioner of NMMC’s Belapur Ward, assured residents that civic officials will inspect the Akshar Chowk stretch alongside traffic engineers and initiate prompt legal action against illegally parked heavy vehicles.
