PM Modi provides Rs 2 lakh compensation for families of labourers killed in a fire in Hyderabad

On Wednesday morning, a large fire destroyed a scrap godown in Hyderabad’s Bhoiguda area, killing eleven workers. The fire was brought under control with the help of six fire engines.

One person made it out alive after smashing a window to flee. He is currently in critical condition at Secunderabad’s Gandhi Hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the loss and provided a Rs 2 lakh compensation for each of the victims’ families. “The death toll from the horrific fire in Hyderabad’s Bhoiguda is terrible. The remains of the deceased were rescued from the wreckage and transported to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) central zone. To identify the victims, a DNA test will be performed.

Azampura village in Bihar was home to ten of the eleven migrant laborers who perished. They’ve been at the godown for a year and a half.

EX GRATIA IS ANNOUNCED BY THE TELANGANA CM.

K Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, expressed sorrow at the occurrence and provided an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to each of the deceased’s families.

He also told Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to make arrangements for the bodies’ return to Bihar. On Wednesday morning, Somesh Kumar and minister T Srinivas Yadav paid a visit to the accident site. Short-circuiting is suspected as the cause of the fire that started at 4 a.m.

REACTIONS OF THE BJP

“My heart is devastated by the loss of lives of laborers of Bihar in the tragic fire in Hyderabad,” BJP National President JP Nadda tweeted in response to the disaster. My heartfelt condolences go out to the victims’ families. I wish all involved in the accident a fast recovery.”

“I want a high-level inquiry into the occurrence by the state government to ascertain facts,” said BJP leader K Krishna Sagar Rao.

The Telangana BJP has also requested ex gratia payments of Rs 50 lakh to each of the deceased’s families.

The opposition party said that “lack of corruption-free fire regulation enforcement is the fundamental reason for such a large tragedy.”

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.
