On the Kashmiri Files row Vivek Agnihotri adds Rahul ji your grandma felt differently

Published

on

The Kashmir Files director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri posted a letter from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi with the caption “Dear Rahul Gandhiji, your grandmother felt differently” in response to the Kerala Congress’s ‘fact check’ tweets on the Kashmiri Pandits exodus.

The Kashmir Files, released on March 11, purports to depict the plight of Kashmiri Pandits during the late 1980s migration. The Kerala unit of the Congress, on the other hand, claimed that the number of Muslims slain in the now-Union Territory was higher than the number of Kashmiri Pandits killed in terror attacks.

Vivek Agnihotri shared Indira Gandhi’s letter to Dr. Nirmala Mitra, who lives in the United States, on Twitter. In December 1981, the letter was written.

“I share your anxiety,” Indira Gandhi stated in the letter. I, too, am disappointed that neither you nor I, who were both born in Kashmir, can own a modest plot of land or home there. But, for the time being, the situation is out of my hands, and the Indian press, as well as its foreign counterparts, are so busy portraying me as dictatorial that doing the required things becomes all the more difficult.”

“The Kashmiri Pandits and Buddhists in Ladakh are being treated very unfairly and discriminated against,” she continued.

WHAT DID THE KERALA CONGRESS SEND OUT ON TWITTER?

In a tweet, the Kerala section of the Congress, appearing to disagree with the movie’s point of view, attempted to match the number of Kashmir Pandit fatalities with that of Muslims, saying: “It was the terrorists who targeted the Pandits.” 399 Kashmiri Pandits were slain in terrorist attacks over 17 years (1990-2007). In the same period, 15,000 Muslims were slaughtered by terrorists.”

Since then, the tweet has been removed.

“Even in the 1948 communal riots after partition, over 1,00,000 Kashmiri Muslims were slain in Jammu, yet there were no retaliatory deaths of Pandits,” the Congress stated in another tweet. Pandits, like other Kashmiris, are victims of terrorism.”

The Kerala Congress then revealed further “facts concerning Kashmiri Pandits,” blaming the departure on the RSS and the BJP.

“Instead of providing Pandits with security after the terrorist attacks, BJP governor Jagmohan Singh advised them to go to Jammu.” Congress said that “a considerable number of Pandit families felt unsafe and fled the valley in dread.”
