Theres no end to Lalus troubles as the ED may seize assets obtained through a husbandry scheme
So much trouble is on the way for RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, who is currently receiving treatment at Ranchi’s Rajendra Prasad Institute of Medical Science after being incarcerated in the Rs 950 crore fodder scam. The Enforcement Directorate may seize assets created by those convicted in the scandal, according to special court orders to the CBI.
In connection with the fifth fodder scam case involving misappropriation of nearly Rs 139 crore from the Doranda treasury, the former Bihar chief minister was convicted to five years in prison and fined Rs 60 lakh by a special CBI court here earlier this week.
The special court ordered the CBI to give the ED a copy of the verdict, the FIR, and the charge sheet in the fodder scam case so that they can take appropriate action.
“I find that the properties/assets acquired from the proceeds of crime by the prisoners and dead accused individuals of this case could not be recognized,” CBI special judge Sudhanshu Kumar Shashi wrote in his ruling on February 21. “The Enforcement Directorate, if wishes so, and if the law allowed, may move for identification and confiscation of such properties/assets established by convicts or dead accused persons by the ill-gotten money,” he stated.
As a result, the prosecution (CBI) is instructed to give a copy of this decision, FIR, charge-sheet, and other relevant documents in this case to the Enforcement Directorate so that they can take appropriate action,” the judgment stated.
The judge stated that when the swindle was discovered, the accused was found to be restricting the scope of the probe.
“I also believe that the swindle would not have occurred if the current accused had taken action and thoroughly researched the situation at the appropriate time.” Since 1991, several media have reported that officials from the animal husbandry department (AHD) have been involved in corruption, but despite having the position of chief minister-cum-finance minister of the state, no action has been taken.”
Furthermore, elected members of the Assembly have often raised concerns about fraudulent withdrawals in AHD on the floor of the Assembly, but he has taken no action. These findings plainly show that the accused was aware of the fraudulent withdrawals from the AHD, but instead of intervening, he shielded the con artists.
The case’s trial, which began in 1996, ended on January 29 this year, and Prasad was found guilty on February 15. On February 21, the court spelled out the sentence amount.

The Repairs
With Ganeshotsav just around the corner, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has stepped up efforts to make city roads safer and smoother for residents and devotees.
NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has directed officials to inspect damaged roads and take up urgent repairs, with priority being given to routes that will witness the movement of large Ganesh idols and immersion processions. To improve monitoring, officials are also geo-tagging potholes so that their locations can be tracked and repairs can be completed without missing important stretches. The civic body is also working on improving street lighting, cleanliness and facilities at immersion points to make the festival more convenient for citizens.
For many residents, smooth roads are more than just a civic issue during Ganeshotsav they are essential for ensuring that processions can move safely and families can participate in the celebrations without worrying about potholes and damaged stretches.
