The Indian Army paid homage to the victims of Arunachal Avalanche

According to an official, all ranks have paid their respects to the seven Army men who died in the avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday. “All ranks have paid tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Hav Jugal Kishore, Rfn Arun Kattal, Rfn Akshay Pathania, Rfn Vishal Sharma, Rfn Rakesh Singh, Rfn Ankesh Bhardwaj, and Gnr Gurbaj Singh,” according to the Indian Army’s Eastern Command.

On February 6, seven Army servicemen were killed by an avalanche while in a high-altitude location in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kameng sector in Tawang district. The army then initiated rescue efforts, which resulted in the deployment of specialised personnel to assist in the rescue of the soldiers. The soldiers, unfortunately, did not make it and were “confirmed dead” on Tuesday. Their bodies were found at the avalanche’s location.

“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of everyone involved, all seven have been declared deceased,” the Indian Army said in a statement following the incident. Meanwhile, the soldiers’ bodies have been moved from the scene to a nearby medical facility for additional processing.

When the avalanche struck, Army men from the 19 JAK Rifles were part of a patrolling squad posted along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the area of Mammy Hut. Over the past few days, the area, which is located at an elevation of 14,500 feet, has seen adverse weather followed by significant snowfall.

While ministers and leaders have conveyed their condolences to the families of the soldiers killed in the avalanche, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha turned to Twitter to express his condolences to the bereaved Army personnel’s families. He tweeted, “Tributes and condolences to the families of martyrs killed in a horrific avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh.”

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the troops’ deaths on Twitter, saying that the nation would never forget the heroes’ exemplary service. President Ram Nath Kovind described the situation as “tragic beyond words” and said the noble act would be remembered forever.

Navi Mumbai Police Arrest African National With Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Cocaine In Ulwe

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.
