MP Minister Bashes Rajasthan Govt. Over Tobacco Minister’s Remark, Demands Suspension
On Friday, Rajasthan Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena sparked debate by claiming that tobacco isn’t the main cause of cancer. While speaking at a seminar in Jaipur on World Cancer Day, the minister stated that some people smoke excessively but do not develop cancer. Following this, Meena’s views were criticised by Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang.
Sarang claimed that Meena was defending tobacco and cigarette merchants in her attack on the Rajasthan Health Minister for his controversial remarks. The Madhya Pradesh minister condemned Meena’s statement and warned that it would have a bad impact on society. “This is a reprehensible statement. How can a state’s health minister make such a statement?” Sarang was ecstatic.
Sarang further chastised the Congress party and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for the minister’s remarks and questioned why the party did not respond. “The statement will encourage young people to eat such items.” This is Italy’s philosophy. “We are disappointed that the Chief Minister has failed to respond to the statement,” the BJP leader stated.
Meena, according to the MP minister, was also defending the tobacco industry. “Tobacco and cigarette merchants will be protected as a result of this.” “This minister should be fired right away,” he remarked.
The words of Rajasthan’s health minister on cigarettes have sparked debate.
When Parsadi Lal Meena spoke at a conference in Jaipur commemorating World Cancer Day, he stated, “I reside in a village where people smoke up to 20 cigarettes per day but never get cancer, even after 80 years. Those who do not smoke, on the other hand, can develop cancer.”
In answer to a question regarding the government’s attempts to reduce cigarette consumption in the state, the minister made a strange reply. According to him, anyone can get cancer, and it is up to doctors to explain the causes in detail. In two months of screening, 278 cancer cases were found.
Meena had previously stated on Friday that cancer had been discovered in 278 patients following a screening of 4,000 people conducted by Early Detection Vans in Rajasthan over the previous two months. According to him, cancer screening and treatment camps are being held up to the Panchayat level.
The vans, according to Meena, are not only moving from village to village screening and treating patients but also raising cancer awareness. He urged the officers to perform effective screening of patients at Cancer Care Units established in all district hospitals, noting that early detection and treatment of cancer is the only way to prevent it.
