NMMC Transfers Spark Political Pressure Controversy
Commissioner Kailash Shinde’s recent appointments face reported pressure for reconsideration, while Sukhdev Yedve takes charge of the anti-encroachment department.
The Controversy
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is facing controversy over recent transfers and appointments of civic officials, with reports of political pressure to reverse some of the decisions.
Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailash Shinde recently promoted Sukhdev Yedve and appointed him Deputy Commissioner of the anti-encroachment department. The move comes amid criticism over illegal constructions and growing encroachments across Navi Mumbai. Yedve previously served as the ward officer in Vashi for around two years. He was also involved in preparing the civic body’s response to a High Court case concerning encroachments. His appointment is being viewed as an attempt to strengthen action against illegal constructions.
Meanwhile, several other appointments have reportedly triggered pressure to reconsider the transfers. Bharat Dhande has been appointed ward officer in Vashi, Aishwarya Narkar in Belapur, and Sanjeev Pawar in Koparkhairane. Prashant Narkar, who served as ward officer in Belapur, has been given additional responsibility as Assistant Commissioner of the anti-encroachment department.
According to the report, some senior officials are reluctant to work at ward offices and prefer to remain at the municipal headquarters. Efforts are reportedly being made through political channels to reverse some of the new appointments. The developments have put the Commissioner’s office under pressure, raising questions about whether the recent administrative changes will remain in place.
