Civic project aims to address long-pending sewage problems faced by residents of Annasaheb Patil Housing Society.

The Issues

Residents of Annasaheb Patil Cooperative Housing Society in Nerul Sector 8 are set to get relief from a long-pending sewage problem, with improvement work on the society’s sewage pipelines beginning recently. The work was inaugurated by Mayor Sujata Patil in the presence of BJP corporator Suraj Patil and local residents. The project was approved through the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) following repeated follow-up by the elected representatives.

The existing sewage infrastructure has been under pressure due to an increase in the number of families living in the society. Residents have reportedly faced recurring problems, making the pipeline improvement work an important requirement. Speaking at the inauguration, Mayor Sujata Patil said that although discussions on the redevelopment of the housing society were underway, the process would take time. Addressing the immediate civic needs of residents was therefore necessary.

She said that fulfilling the commitments made to citizens during the elections would remain a priority and that efforts would be made to improve basic amenities and bring wider development to Ward 23.

Corporator Suraj Patil said the sewage project was only the beginning of their development plans for the ward. He said the elected representatives were committed to addressing residents’ essential needs and working towards transforming the ward over the next five years. Social worker Ashok Atkari, advocate Ganesh Rasal, Yashwant Tande, society office-bearers and several residents attended the inauguration.

Immersion carried out smoothly at 189 locations with focus on safety and eco-friendly celebrations.

The Immersion

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) successfully managed the immersion of 14,318 Ganesh idols and 2,230 Gauri idols during the festival. The immersions were carried out peacefully at 189 locations, including 22 natural and 156 artificial immersion ponds.

NMMC officials, volunteers, lifeguards, fire brigade personnel and police teams worked together to ensure smooth and safe arrangements across the city.

The civic body’s appeal for an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav also received a positive response. A total of 2,598 Shadu clay idols were immersed, helping promote environmentally friendly celebrations. Citizens who used Shadu idols were honoured with ‘Environment Friend’ appreciation certificates.  The highest number of immersions was recorded in the Ghansoli and Koparkhairane areas. Special arrangements such as rafts for large idols, medical teams, lighting, generators and safety personnel were provided at major immersion points.

Separate arrangements were also made to collect wet and dry nirmalya, which was later scientifically processed at the NMMC facility in Turbhe. The civic body thanked Navi Mumbai residents for their cooperation and encouraged citizens to continue following eco-friendly practices during future festivals.

The Felicitation

A grand felicitation programme was organised in Navi Mumbai to mark the birthday of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Navi Mumbai District President Dr Rajesh Patil. Party leaders, workers, senior citizens and women attended the event and extended their warm wishes to him. MLA Manda Mhatre, former MLA Sandeep Naik, House Leader Sagar Naik and several NMMC corporators and party office-bearers were among those present. Women performed an aarti and prayed for Dr Patil’s long life, while he later cut a cake to celebrate the occasion.

Dr Patil thanked the leaders, workers and citizens for their affection and blessings. He said that strengthening the BJP’s organisational network across Navi Mumbai would remain his priority. He also stressed the importance of building the organisation up to the booth level and working together with party leaders and workers. Speakers at the event highlighted Dr Patil’s accessibility and his efforts to involve workers at different levels of the organisation. They said he had actively supported programmes organised by the state and national leadership and encouraged grassroots workers to participate.

Dr Patil also recalled the BJP’s performance in the previous NMMC elections and acknowledged the support of senior leader Ganesh Naik, MLA Manda Mhatre and party workers. The celebrations concluded with leaders and workers wishing Dr Patil good health and continued success in his organisational responsibilities.
