BJP’s Vikas Sorte submits request as locals complain of unruly behavior, demand permanent police chowki.

The Request

Senior citizens residing near the Vashi Mini Seashore (Sector 10A) have raised safety concerns and demanded stronger police presence in the area. The popular waterfront stretch, frequented by morning and evening walkers, has reportedly become a hotspot for unruly activities, causing discomfort to regular visitors—especially the elderly.

According to local residents, the seashore attracts groups of youngsters, couples, and individuals under the influence of alcohol, leading to frequent instances of misbehavior, indecent activities, and public nuisance. Senior citizens say the situation often becomes particularly troubling during peak walking hours, affecting the peaceful environment of the neighbourhood.

Responding to these concerns, BJP Vashi President Vikas Baban Sorte met the Senior Police Inspector of Vashi Police Station and formally submitted a request seeking increased patrolling. He urged police to deploy teams during two critical time slots: 6:30 am to 9:30 am and 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, when senior citizens usually visit the area. Sorte has also recommended setting up a permanent police chowki at the site to ensure continuous surveillance and long-term safety.

The matter has been escalated to MLA Mandatai Mhatre, who has forwarded the request to the police department and instructed officials to take immediate action to address residents’ concerns.

Authorities are expected to review the proposal and implement necessary measures to restore order and enhance security at the Mini Seashore, a key recreational spot for Vashi residents.

Seawoods residents seek strict action against tobacco sales near educational institutions and public spaces.

The Cigarette Sales

Residents of Sector 25, Seawoods, Nerul, have raised concerns over students allegedly smoking in public places and the suspected sale of cigarettes to minors.

Following repeated complaints, the ward officer and local police conducted a raid at a paan shop on the ground floor of Ambika Heights on the night of September 11. Officials reportedly found cigarette cartons at the shop, but no other illegal intoxicating substances.

Residents said students, reportedly aged between 17 and 22, are frequently seen smoking near Seawoods railway station, the bridge and other public areas. They suspect that a local paan shop may be supplying cigarettes to college students. Prakash Yawalkar, president of the Seawoods Citizens Welfare Association, said students were openly smoking outside the shop, raising concerns among residents and parents.

The association has submitted complaints to the local police, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, mayor, local representatives and the Drug Department. It has urged authorities to strictly enforce the law prohibiting tobacco sales to minors and increase monitoring around schools, colleges and other student gathering points.

Residents said stronger action is needed to prevent tobacco use among young people and ensure that public spaces remain safe and healthy.
