ACB nabbed four in a Rs 3.5 lakh bribery case at CIDCO’s Vashi office.

The Racket

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has uncovered another bribery case involving CIDCO officials, barely a fortnight after a similar operation at its Nerul office. On Wednesday evening, the Navi Mumbai ACB trapped and arrested four accused—including three government employees—while accepting a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh at CIDCO’s Sub-Registrar (Co-operative Societies) office in Vashi.

The accused have been identified as office assistant Rahul Rangarao Kamble (50), co-operative officer Dhanaji Dattatray Kalukhe (52), peon Mahesh Gangaram Kamothkar, and private individual Kishor Shankarrao More of Kalwa, Thane.

According to officials, the case stemmed from a dispute involving a housing society committee in Sector-9, Vashi. The society’s secretary complained that CIDCO officials had initially demanded ₹5 lakh for a favourable order, which was later negotiated down to Rs 3.5 lakh. Verification conducted between August 12 and 22 confirmed the bribe demand.

During the operation, Kamble and Kalukhe instructed that the money be handed to peon Kamothkar. Once the complainant delivered the cash, the ACB team moved in, catching him red-handed. The other three were subsequently arrested. All four have been booked at APMC police station under sections 7, 7(A), and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. DySP Dharmaraj Sonke led the operation.

This is the second such trap in two weeks, following the arrest of two staffers at CIDCO’s Nerul office. In June, Thane ACB had nabbed CIDCO Employees’ Union president for taking Rs 1.5 lakh from a retiree. With six arrests in under four months, ACB operations have once again highlighted rampant corruption in CIDCO.

Steady monsoon downpours boost primary water reservoir for Navi Mumbai residents.

The Storage

In a major relief for Navi Mumbai residents, water levels at the Morbe Dam the primary drinking water source for the region have reached 75.66% of its total capacity, following consistent monsoon showers across its catchment area in Khalapur.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) officials confirmed that the rising water levels significantly reduce concerns over potential water cuts or supply disruptions in the coming months. The steady inflow has ensured a secure drinking water buffer for over 15 lakh residents across the city.

While the current stock is sufficient to meet daily demand well into early next year, civic engineers noted that sustained heavy downpours are still required for the reservoir to hit 100% capacity and overflow. NMMC continues to monitor catchment rainfall closely to optimize seasonal storage reserves.

Civic body launches demolition drive and serves notices to curb unauthorized developments across Navi Mumbai.

The Structures

In a strong bid to enforce urban planning norms and safeguard public land, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its crackdown on illegal structures across several ward offices. The civic administration has launched targeted demolition drives and issued show-cause notices to halt unapproved construction activities across the city.

Following directives from the Bombay High Court regarding unauthorized developments, NMMC officials have taken strict action against hundreds of illegal structures. Show-cause notices have also been served to civic personnel under whose jurisdiction these unsanctioned developments reportedly flourished.

Armed with heavy machinery, anti-encroachment squads are pulling down illegal reinforced concrete (RCC) structures, unauthorized hutments, and encroached spaces built without required planning permissions or in violation of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act.

NMMC administrators have instructed ward officers to maintain strict monitoring, conduct regular site inspections, and initiate immediate punitive action against fresh encroachments to preserve the planned character of Navi Mumbai.
