IndiGo Airlines will commence commercial operations from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in November 2025, becoming the first airline to do so, the carrier announced on Wednesday.

In a statement, IndiGo said it will begin with over 18 daily departures to more than 15 cities, expanding to 79 daily departures, including 14 international flights, by early November 2025. The operations are expected to further scale up to 140 daily departures by November 2026.

The airline has partnered with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL), the developer of NMIA, to support the airport’s phased rollout. IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers called the move a significant milestone, adding, “This expansion underscores our commitment to serving India’s growing aviation demand and enhancing passenger experience with affordable, on-time service.”

NMIA is designed as a state-of-the-art international aviation hub. Phase one will support 20 million passengers and 0.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo annually. Once fully developed, it will accommodate up to 90 million passengers and 3.2 MMT of cargo per year.

AAHL CEO Arun Bansal said the partnership with IndiGo confirms NMIA’s position as a future domestic and international transfer hub. “Our collaboration aims to transform travel for millions and reduce congestion at the existing Mumbai airport by creating a dual-airport system,” he said.

The operations from NMIA are expected to enhance regional connectivity, support economic growth in Maharashtra, and accelerate India’s path to becoming the world’s third-largest aviation market by 2030.
