Fatal Accident at Turbhe Naka Sparks Concerns Over Illegal Parking and Encroachments

The Parking Issues

A tragic accident at Turbhe Naka has reignited concerns over illegal parking and encroachments along Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marg. On February 19, 15-year-old Deepash Baiddha lost his life after being hit by a dumper while navigating around a stationary tempo. The student was on his bicycle to get a xerox copy of his Class 10 hall ticket when the accident occurred. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.

Residents have long complained about unauthorised parking and encroachments from Turbhe Naka to Pfizer Company, citing frequent accidents due to congestion. Scrap dealers and illegally parked heavy vehicles obstruct roads, making it dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians. A gas cylinder shop near Ambedkar Nagar Gate has also been flagged for tempos blocking the road during refilling.

Following the accident, BJP Navi Mumbai Party Office Secretary Suresh Gaikwad formally wrote to the Commissioner of Police, demanding action against illegal parking and encroachments. Locals allege inconsistent enforcement, with private vehicle owners facing penalties while heavy vehicles and roadside businesses operate unchecked.

The incident has renewed calls for stricter traffic regulation and pedestrian safety measures. Residents urge the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and local police to take immediate steps to prevent further tragedies and ensure safer roads.
