Daily commuters have been inconvenienced by malfunctioning digital indicators at Kharghar railway station, which has sparked annoyance and demands for immediate correction.

A rider recently posted a snapshot of a malfunctioning electronic display that showed just partial train information, such as “09:43 P” for Panvel instead of “PL,” leaving out important elements like the destination and full time format. Social media was used to alert railway authorities to the problem, and Central Railway officials and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw received complaints.

Central Railway officials responded to commuter complaints by stating, “We have begun working on the issue and the new digital indicators are being installed in phase manner.”

The source said that Kharghar is next in line for renovations, which have already been finished at Belapur, Vashi, Nerul, and Juinagar stations. The booking office and subway at the station have already put three new indications, and the remaining platform work should be finished shortly.

Passengers have been confused by the malfunctioning signs, especially during rush hours. “Seeing such basic information missing is frustrating, especially during rush hour,” Madhuri Sharma, a frequent commuter, said. Anil Desai, another traveler, stressed the need of accurate and timely train information and encouraged officials to speed up the installation.

Election authorities set up localized camps in Belapur and Airoli constituencies to streamline voter list corrections and new registrations.

The Camps

To accelerate the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, the Election Commission and local civic administration are conducting special weekend drives at polling stations across Navi Mumbai.

The weekend camps, set up at designated polling booths throughout the Belapur and Airoli assembly constituencies, aim to provide residents with a convenient, in-person channel to update their voter details. The initiative complements the ongoing door-to-door enumeration visits conducted by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

During these special sessions, citizens can access and submit essential electoral forms directly. Services include Form 6 for new voter registrations, Form 7 for objections or deletions, and Form 8 for residential address shifts or detail corrections.

Civic authorities and Election Officers have urged local residents particularly newly eligible voters aged 18 and above to visit their local polling booths with valid proof of identity and residence. Officials highlighted that participating in these camps ensures individual details are accurately reflected in the 2026 electoral rolls ahead of upcoming administrative deadlines.

Citizens’ Forum Urges NMMC to Restore Belapur Hill Lake for Water Security

Sajag Nagrik Manch submits representation demanding revival of natural reservoirs to harvest rainwater and reduce sole reliance on Morbe Dam.

The Urge

A prominent local citizens’ group, Sajag Nagrik Manch, has submitted a formal representation to Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, urging the civic body to execute large-scale rainwater harvesting and conservation projects.

The forum called for the immediate restoration and expansion of the natural lake located on the Sector 8 (Artist Village) hill in CBD Belapur, alongside constructing a new reservoir in the Green Valley area. The organization pointed out that massive volumes of monsoon rainwater currently run off into the sea unutilized. Highlighting recent water supply disruptions across the city, the forum emphasized that over-reliance on a single water source the Morbe Dam leaves Navi Mumbai vulnerable during maintenance or operational shocks.

To create a sustainable urban water model, Sajag Nagrik Manch urged NMMC to conduct scientific geological surveys to identify ideal locations for retention ponds. Beyond building infrastructure, the group advocated for policy measures, such as mandating rainwater harvesting and non-potable borewells for residential housing societies. They also recommended restricting the use of treated drinking water for non-essential activities like gardening and vehicle washing.

According to the forum, reviving these water bodies will boost groundwater recharge, lower localized flooding risks, strengthen climate resilience, and secure the city’s water future.
